Item Description

A collection of the major films of Luc Moullet, the unknown genius of theFrench New Wave and long-time Cahiers du Cinema critic. The set includes: The Smugglers (1967, 81 mins.), which exploits its low budget to offer a digressive and aggressive slapstick comedy; the psychedelic western A Girl Is a Gun (1971, 100 mins.), starring iconic actor Jean-Pierre Leaud; Brigitte and Brigitte (1966, 75 mins.), in which the titular heroines move to Paris to study cinema at the Sorbonne, featuring cameos by Claude Chabrol, Eric Rohmer, Andre Techine, and Sam Fuller; Up and Down (1992, 84 mins.), a French TV production that follows a group of cyclists struggling up the winding slopes of the Alps; Anatomy of a Relationship (1975, 79 mins.), a delirious dissection of two intellectuals who can't quite make their sex life work; and Genesis of a Meal (1978, 112 mins.), an economic comparison, from the production to consumption stage, of a can of Senegalese tuna, a French omelet, an Ecuadorian banana, and a reel of 35mm film--all staples in the director's diet. Moullet's films are a mixture" of Monty Python and Mike Leigh (Sight & Sound). In French with optional Luc Moullet---France---1966-1992---606 mins."
